Under the name 'Floudia', we present four pieces that emerged from improvisation, on January 21st 2022.
With the spontaneity one has in a lively conversation we used our tools – the ones we gain through experiences, arranged in the vast network of the brain.
That's where elements from classical and
modern music, rock, jazz and folk music emerged from.
Friendship, love, profound communication and freedom of expression are the fundamentals and the realmeaning of this 'Floudia' venture.

Regarding our personal tendencies and the influences which prevailed in this project we could mention the work of Giacinto Scelsi, Olivier Messiaen, the Dutch minimalists but also Xenakis, spectral music, folk music of the Balkans, the Mediterranean and northern Africa.

The microtonal tuning, something we find in various musics from the East to the West, plays a crucial role. This "detuning" has fueled our melodic pursuits as well as our inclination for hypnotic and ecstatic drones, when you're absorbed in the act of listening and your awareness shuttles between your fellow players and yourself. The "jolts", that throw you out of the tonal environment, expand the field of improvisation and keep you alert.

The double quarter tone melodica, an instrument put together by Nikos, satisfies his desire to produce microtonal harmonies while using an acoustic instrument, that is without electricity. Stelios' electric guitar is also tuned microtonally. Nikos' trumpet and the (when not prepared) mainly faithful to equal temperament piano played by Katerina are completing the line-up of this album.

Τα "φλούδια" παρουσιάζουμε τέσσερα κομμάτια που προέκυψαν από τον ελεύθερο αυτοσχεδιασμό μας, στις 21 Ιανουαρίου του 2022.
Με τον αυθορμητισμό ενός ζωηρού και ζεστού διαλόγου ρίξαμε στο παιχνίδι τα εργαλεία μας – αυτά που αποκτάμε μέσα από εμπειρίες τακτοποιημένες στο απέραντο δίκτυο του εγκεφάλου. Από εκεί μέσα αναδύθηκαν στοιχεία από την κλασική και σύγχρονη μουσική, το ροκ, την τζαζ και διάφορες λαϊκές παραδοσιακές μουσικές.
Η φιλία, η αγάπη, η βαθιά επικοινωνία και η ελευθερία στην έκφραση συνιστούν την αρχή και το νόημα του συλλογικού εγχειρήματος "φλούδια".

Ως προς τις προσωπικές μας τάσεις και τις επιρροές που υπερίσχυσαν σ' αυτό το εγχείρημα θα αναφέραμε το έργο του Giacinto Scelsi, του Olivier Messiaen, των Ολλανδών μινιμαλιστών αλλά και τον Ξενάκη, τη φασματική μουσική, τη λαϊκή μουσική των Βαλκανίων και μουσικές γύρω από τη Μεσογείο και από τη βόρεια Αφρική.

Κεντρική θέση έχει το μικροτονικό κούρδισμα, κάτι που συναντάμε σε διάφορες μουσικές από την Ανατολή μέχρι τη Δύση. Το «ξεκούρδισμα» αυτό τροφοδότησε τις μελωδικές μας αναζητήσεις όπως και την κλίση μας προς τα υπνωτικά και εκστατικά drones, όταν απορροφάσαι στην ακρόαση και πηγαινοέρχεσαι ανάμεσα σ' αυτό που ακούς από τους άλλους κι αυτό που κάνεις εσύ. Τα «τινάγματα» που σε πετάνε έξω από το τονικό πλαίσιο, διευρύνουν το ελεύθερο πεδίο του αυτοσχεδιασμού και σε κρατάνε σε εγρήγορση.

Το όργανο με τις δυο μελόντικες που συναρμολόγησε ο Νίκος, ικανοποιεί την επιθυμία του να παράγει μικροτονικές αρμονίες με ένα ακουστικό όργανο, δηλαδή χωρίς ρεύμα. Η ηλεκτρική κιθάρα του Στέλιου, είναι κουρδισμένη κι αυτή μικροτονικά. Η τρομπέτα του Νίκου και το πιστό στον συγκερασμό (όταν δεν είναι προετοιμασμένο) πιάνο που παίζει η Κατερίνα συμπληρώνουν την ενορχήστρωση του δίσκου.
